Bridging the gap... between academia and business
SISCOG encourages the close link between the academic and business worlds, supporting interactions that facilitate integration between these two realities.

Today, October 16th, is one of those days!

This afternoon, SISCOG will share some of its work with students from the "Seminars in Statistics and Operations Research" discipline, from the 1st year of the master's in Statistics and Operations Research from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL).

Under the theme "Optimising the operational planning of passenger rail transport", our specialist Ana Carvalho will explain a classic resource optimisation problem that arises in the first phase of the definition of a transport system, just before defining a timetable for rail traffic: the line planning problem.

To illustrate the concepts involved, ranging from demand and supply, origin-destination matrix, frequencies and routes, a brief demonstration will be made of a solution obtained through a genetic algorithm, developed at SISCOG's Research & Development labs.
