COTEC Portugal is an association of private enterprises, with the Mission of promoting the increase of productivity of companies based in Portugal, through the development and diffusion of a culture and practice of innovation, as well as of the resident knowledge within the country.

On the 15th of May 2006, the 3rd COTEC Portugal Innovation National Meeting took place. The theme of the event was "More and better innovation". Several entrepreneurs participated in this meeting, which counted with the sponsorship of the President of the Republic of Portugal, Prof. Cavaco Silva.

During the session eight new companies were nominated new members of the COTEC Portugal network of Innovative SME's: SISCOG was one of those companies.

This network has two main goals: the promotion and recognition of a group of SME's which, by its innovative behavior, are examples of value creation for the country, and the establishment of a cooperation between COTEC partner companies (typically big companies) and the network of SME's, in order to energize the benefits that ones and others may get from this association.

SISCOG's admission in this prestige network of companies is a motive of great pride and added responsibility.

In August 2003, SISCOG received, for the second time, the "Innovative Application Award" given by the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), for the crew planning and management system developed for the Norwegian State Railways.

This system is composed by a central component, located in Oslo, responsible for the planning of about 4.000 drivers and guards. The plans originated centrally are spread out, through a computer network installed all over Norway, for staff management centres, located in Oslo, Trondheim, Hamar, Drammen, Bergen, Kristiansand and Stavanger. At these centres, the Staff Allocation module, also developed by SISCOG, affects the plans received to individual workers, having in consideration its qualifications, the workload that already was affected to them in the last months, and all labour rules.

On a daily basis, the system receives information about the execution of the operation, supplying decision support about the changes that must be taken in place over the long term plan, in order to minimize the influences of unexpected events on the operation. The system also registers the work realized by each worker, supplying to the central salary system the right information on the effective hours of work and its supplements.

In February 2002, SISCOG received this award, which was a joint initiative of ANETIE (the National Association of Information Technology Companies), ICEP Portugal - Investment, Trade and Tourism Office (a government agency created in 1949 under the Ministry of Economy to promote Portugal's image internationally), IAPMEI (the Small and Medium Companies and Investment Support Institute), POCTI (the Operational Program for Science, Technology and Innovation), and the European Fund for Regional Development.

In 1997 SISCOG received the Innovative Application Award given by the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) for outstanding work performed for the Dutch Railways.

AAAI is the largest and most prestigious Artificial Intelligence society in the world. Since 1990, it has selected the most impressive applications to receive the Innovative Application Award. Applications receiving these awards are selected on the basis of their demonstrated value to business and of their technical innovation.

This award means that the system developed by SISCOG for the Dutch Railways was considered as one of the world's top applications.

In 1995 SISCOG received a special invitation to be present at the Conference and Showcase on "The Information Society" held in Brussels, alongside the G7 Meeting.

The goal of the Showcase was to show how more and more people around the world are benefiting from new information technology applications, embracing business, health care, leisure, education, transport, and domestic environment.

SISCOG was selected from 130 companies worldwide. Only four companies from non-G7 countries were chosen, and SISCOG was the only one present in the scheduling domain.
