ESCALASESCALAS, a long-term planning system for the personnel of CP (Portuguese Railways),
capable of scheduling and rescheduling, the work of train drivers, train guards and train conductors.
This system generates rosters (sequences of daily duties) of variable size (depending on the number
of available personnel resources) and is capable of adapting previously generated schedules to new
realities (when the input data changes). Scheduling can be done manually, semi-automatically,
or combining these two forms.
This system has been replaced by ESCALAS II. ESCALAS II, is an upgrade version of ESCALAS for CP (the Portuguese Railways). ESCALAS II incorporates the aspects available in CREWS_NS (Dutch Railways) and plans daily duties and rosters separately. Start of operation: 2000. Present status: production since 2000, in some business units.
CREWS_NSCREWS_NS, a system similar to ESCALAS, for the personnel of
NS (the Dutch Railways). CREWS_NS is used by NS Reizigers
(passenger trains) and plans the work of drivers, guards, catering personnel, and people
that count passengers (“meten”).
Present status: full production since 1998.
CREWS_WAGNCREWS_WAGN, a system for the long-term planning of the duties of drivers
of West Anglia Great Northern Railway (a UK franchise
passenger train operator). The system also plans the diagrams of Stansted Express.
Present status: The system was in production in 2002-2003. However, organizational changes have temporarily stopped the use of CREWS_WAGN. On April 2004, WAGN was divided in two companies: West Anglia and Great Northern. West Anglia is now operated by the new railway franchise “One”. These organizational changes had a negative effect on the use of CREWS. WAGN ceased to exist as an entity, and CREWS_WAGN system has not been used since that time.
TPOTPO, a system for personnel planning (both long-term and short-term),
operative staff allocation, and management and recording/reporting of the drivers and
guards of NSB (the Norwegian Sate Railways).
Start of operation (long-term): 2000.
Present status: In production in long-term since 2000. In production in the short-term since 2004.
CREWS_MLCREWS_ML is a pilot project for the long term planning system (duties and rosters)
of the personnel of the Lisbon Underground (Metropolitano de Lisboa).
The system plans the work of about 200 drivers in two lines of the network, with 850 trains/day.
The use of CREWS was able to save two drivers for the same amount of work, meaning a crew cost
reduction of 5,6%.
SISCOG also conducted an in-depth study for the development of systems for the timetable, and rolling stock roster planning (and rail yard planning). The prototype was completed and accepted in 2002.
PDSPDS (S-tog), a system for planning (long-term and short-term), staff allocation,
real-time dispatching, and recording/reporting of the personnel of the
S-tog (the suburban trains of Copenhagen). The system also offers communication facilities via
Internet and mobile phone (short messages) between the crewmembers and the system. The system
addresses the drivers of S-tog. This system is still under development. The system is being extended
to other classes of personnel, ticket inspectors, shunting personnel, ticket office personnel, and
maintenance workshops personnel.
Present status: The long-term production of duties has started operation in 2003. A new version of the system for long-term and short-term planning, dispatching (still somewhat limited), and work recording started operation in 2006.
PDS_OGPPlanning system acquired by
S-tog (suburban trains of Copenhagen)
to plan and manage the work of other classes of personnel: 250 S-train (travelling) ticket inspectors;
110 terminal drivers (shunting work); 360 sales personnel (ticket offices); 80 personnel at
stations; 100 administrative staff; and 175 workers at repair shops.
The system includes the following phases of the planning and management cycle: long term planning
(duties and rosters), allocation, short-term planning, recording and reporting.
PDS_DSBPDS (DSB), a system similar to the PDS system above, but for the guards of
DSB (the Danish State Railways).
Present status: This system is still under development. The long-term planning started operation in 2005. A new version of the system for short-term planning and dispatching (still somewhat limited), entered in full production in May 2006.
VIPVIP is a system for personnel planning (long-term and short-term) of the drivers of
VR (Finnish Railways).
Present status: the system is in production in the long-term since 2003, and in the short-term since 2004. The system’s final acceptance took place in December 2004.
CREWS_BRISASystem selected by BRISA (National Lease for Motorway Concession in Portugal),
for the development of a project for long term and short term planning system. The system will plan the
work of 1100 operators located around 90 tollbooths.
Present status: the final acceptance took place in December 2004. Production will start in 2006.
VIP_OGPVIP_OGP is a system for personnel planning
(long-term and short-term) of the conductors and railway yard
personnel of VR (Finnish Railways).
TSSTSS is a system for long-term planning (duties and rosters)
of the 3.000 drivers of London Underground.
